Ashwagandha Extract Manufacturing: Separating Specification Rigour from Market Noise

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has become one of the highest-demand botanical ingredients globally. The global adaptogens market is expanding, and ashwagandha sits at its centre. For brands building credible products, this growth comes with a challenge: the market is now crowded with suppliers making nearly identical claims. How do you identify a manufacturer whose output will hold up under regulatory scrutiny and consumer expectations?

We will share how we think about this — not as a sales pitch, but as a framework for evaluation.

The Withanolide Question

The primary bioactive fraction in ashwagandha extract is withanolides — a class of steroidal lactones concentrated in the root. The standardised withanolide percentage is the single most important specification figure when evaluating ashwagandha extracts.

Two analytical methods are used in the industry to verify withanolide content: HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) and gravimetry. These are not interchangeable:

HPLC provides compound-specific identification and quantification. It is more precise and distinguishes between individual withanolide compounds.

Gravimetry measures total extractable material within a defined polarity range, and withanolides are reported as a fraction of that. It is simpler but less specific.

At Shri Ahimsa Naturals, we offer both: Ashwagandha P.E. 2.5% Withanolides by HPLC and Ashwagandha P.E. 2.5% Withanolides by Gravimetry. The choice depends on your target market's regulatory requirements and the claims you intend to make.

Why 2.5%?

2.5% withanolides is a widely recognised commercial grade that balances bioactive potency with cost-effective formulation. It is the standard referenced in much of the published human research on ashwagandha supplementation, making it defensible for clinical substantiation of product claims. Higher grades exist (5%, 10%) and are suitable for specific applications — we can supply those specifications on request.

Root-Only vs. Root and Leaf

This is a sourcing decision that significantly affects your product positioning. Traditional Ayurvedic use and the bulk of clinical research is based on root extract. Some lower-cost commercial products use leaf material or mixed root/leaf, which alters the withanolide profile. If your brand is making traditional use or clinical research-backed claims, root-only sourcing is the appropriate choice. We are transparent about our raw material composition — ask us directly.

Regulatory Landscape

Ashwagandha is permitted as a dietary supplement ingredient in the US (under DSHEA), listed in the EU as a botanical, and has a long history of traditional use in India recognised under Ayurvedic frameworks. Depending on your target market, you may need specific documentation. We provide a full dossier including COA, MSDS, ingredient origin statement, and where applicable, relevant pharmacopoeial compliance data.

Our Manufacturer Credentials

Shri Ahimsa Naturals Ltd. is a listed entity (BSE) — meaning our financials, governance, and operations are subject to public disclosure requirements. For procurement teams that require supply chain due diligence documentation, this is a meaningful differentiator. We have been operating in this space since 1990. That track record is verifiable.

Three Ancient Herbs, One Modern Wellness Solution

Health is not just about one problem or one solution. Our body is a complex system where everything is connected — joints, metabolism, immunity, energy levels, and overall well-being.

That is why a combination of Curcumin Extract, Garcinia Cambogia Extract, and Boswellia Extract (65%) makes so much sense.

Each of these herbs has its own unique strength, but together, they create a powerful and balanced approach to wellness.

·         Curcumin works from within — reducing inflammation, protecting cells, and supporting immunity. It helps the body stay strong against stress, pollution, and daily wear and tear.

·         Garcinia Cambogia supports healthy metabolism and weight balance. It helps control cravings, encourages better energy use, and promotes a more mindful relationship with food.

·         Boswellia focuses on joints and mobility, reducing pain and stiffness while supporting smoother movement and flexibility.

Individually, each of these extracts is beneficial. But when combined, they complement each other beautifully — like different instruments playing together in harmony.

This trio is especially helpful for people who:

·         Experience joint pain or stiffness

·         Struggle with weight or slow metabolism

·         Feel tired, inflamed, or low on energy

·         Want a more natural approach to daily wellness

At Shri Ahimsa, we do not just see these as ingredients — we see them as gifts from nature. Our mission is to preserve their purity, enhance their effectiveness, and make them accessible to wellness brands that truly care about people’s health.

We believe that real wellness is not about quick fixes, harsh chemicals, or unrealistic promises. It is about balance, patience, and working in harmony with nature.

Curcumin, Garcinia, and Boswellia — three ancient herbs meeting modern science, creating one holistic path to better health.

Because true wellness is not just about feeling good today — it is about living better every day.
