The plant-based nutraceutical ingredients category has expanded significantly over the past five years. What was once a niche within health supplement formulation is now a mainstream procurement priority across sports nutrition, functional food, pharmaceutical nutraceuticals, and general wellness brands globally.
At Shri Ahimsa Naturals, we have been part of this supply chain since 1990 — long before the current wave of demand. This post reflects how we think about what makes a plant-based ingredient supply relationship work, from a manufacturer's perspective.
Our Current Product Portfolio
We produce and export the following natural botanical
extracts from our Jaipur facility:
• CO2 & Water Extracted Natural Caffeine — USP/FCC/EP/BP/IP grade
• Green Coffee Bean Extract — standardised chlorogenic acids
• Curcumin Extract — from Curcuma longa
• Garcinia Cambogia Extract
• Ashwagandha P.E. 2.5% Withanolides (HPLC and Gravimetry grades)
• Boswellia Extract — 65% Boswellic Acid by Titration
• Shilajit Extract
• Tribulus Extract — 45% Saponins
• Senna Extract — from Cassia angustifolia
Each of these is
manufactured under established quality management systems with full
documentation support.
What the 'Plant-Based' Label Actually Requires
Plant-based
positioning in nutraceuticals means more than selecting a botanical ingredient
over a synthetic one. It means:
• Traceability from raw material to finished extract, including botanical identity confirmation (macroscopic and microscopic examination, or DNA barcoding for high-value ingredients)
• Extraction processes that do not introduce synthetic solvent residues incompatible with clean-label claims
• Standardisation to defined active compound percentages so the ingredient delivers consistent bioactive input batch to batch
• Documentation that supports regulatory filing in the markets you are targeting
These are not aspirational standards. They are the baseline for operating in regulated markets. We meet them. If you are evaluating a supplier and these requirements are not being addressed directly, that is information worth having.
The Clean Extraction Advantage
Our primary extraction methods are CO2 (supercritical) and water-based. Both are solvent-free in the sense that no synthetic organic solvents are introduced into the final product stream. CO2 extraction in particular allows precise control over the extraction selectivity — meaning we can target specific compound classes while minimising extraction of unwanted materials.
For formulators building products for the EU, UK, or premium US natural channels, this matters. Solvent residue specifications in these markets are stringent. Starting with a clean-extraction ingredient reduces compliance risk downstream.
On the Question of Pricing and Value
We are not the cheapest option in every category. We have never positioned ourselves that way. The value proposition we offer is consistency, documentation depth, and a 35-year track record in export-oriented botanical processing. For brands where ingredient reliability affects product stability and regulatory standing, the cost of reformulating around a quality failure from a lower-cost supplier will always exceed the premium for sourcing correctly in the first place.
We are transparent about this. If your procurement decision is driven solely by price, we may not be the right fit. If it is driven by quality assurance alongside competitive pricing, we are worth the conversation.
